I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Guam with my partner, Charlene, over the the break, in between semesters. I had been talking about visiting Guam over the past few years to my father, and me studying abroad in Japan was the push that we both needed to make it become a reality for us. This trip was really special for me as it is where my father is from and where he currently lives. The trip lasted for about a week and I was extremely grateful that my father was able to help with almost all of the costs. It was very memorable for me to go around and learn more about the culture of Guam and see everything for myself. We were basically showed the entire island over our duration and got to experience some of the daily life in Guam. I guess my main advice from this trip would be to take advantage of your country’s location wherever you end up studying abroad at. It’s a great opportunity to travel to neighboring countries if it is within your means and something that interests you. Although travelling is expensive I put aside the money because I had the mindset that I would not have a similar chance in a very long time. To kind of back this up, I knew students that would make trips all around different parts of Asia that they wouldn’t have been able to do if they weren’t in Japan due to its proximity to so many other countries.
